Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on the government to act immediately as a matter of national security and denounced the increasing wave of violence in some areas of Kwara State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Obi expressed his sorrow over the terrible deaths caused by a recent bandit attack in Kwara State’s Oke-Ode region.

Obi’s remarks were said to have taken place in the midst of a fatal attack that killed a number of locals and vigilante members in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun Local Government Area, on Sunday.

He appealed for the government and security forces to take immediate measures to protect civilians’ lives, calling the attacks senseless acts of violence.

Along with expressing his condolences to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the residents of Kwara State, and everyone impacted by the incident, Peter Obi prayed for God’s fortitude during trying times.

The news of the terrible murders in Oke-Ode, Kwara State, where innocent people, including vigilantes and the Baale of Ogbayo, were killed in yet another senseless act of violence by armed bandits terrorizing our country, reached me with a heavy heart.

“As innocent lives are taken, our country is once again plunged into grief. These frequent assaults highlight the pressing need for a national security emergency. It should be impossible for any Nigerian to live in dread in their own house. We can’t let tragedy become more commonplace.

“Kwara State’s residents and the governor are in my thoughts and prayers. I want you to know that you are not alone. I also want to express my sincere sympathies to the families that are hurting. “May the souls of the deceased rest in perfect peace, and may you find strength and comfort in this trying time,” Obi said on his 𝕏 account.
