On Monday, angry teenagers protested increased insecurity and banditry in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State, causing tension.
According to reports, the protesters, who were primarily young people from the area, took to the streets early in the morning to express their annoyance at the numerous terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and murders that have occurred in the area in recent weeks.
The Lafiagi office of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was set on fire during the demonstration, which quickly descended into violence. The Emir of Lafiagi’s palace was also overrun by the demonstrators, who damaged parts of the structure and multiple windows.
Speaking of intolerable levels of dread and insecurity, a resident said the demonstration was long overdue.
“We have been silently weeping and passing away. Every week there are kidnappings. The inhabitant remarked, “We no longer sleep with our eyes shut, and no one is taking any action about it—not even the Emir, the chairman, or the governor.
The demonstration, according to a different source, was a reaction to months of pent-up resentment over the state government’s purported inaction.
The youths are worn out, he continued, and the government is not taking any concrete steps. Neither the governor nor our chairman are prepared to assist us.
“The attacks are becoming increasingly severe. The young people demonstrated today for that reason. They visited the security agency offices and the palace of the Emir. The NDLEA office was set on fire.

Following several kidnappings in Lafiagi and the neighboring areas, there is a protest. There have been reports of three residents being abducted in different attacks in the past 48 hours alone.
Yman, a well-known Point of Sale (POS) agent, was kidnapped Sunday night in Lafiagi town and is one of the most recent victims. A violent raid on Kokodo village early on Monday resulted in the capture of two Hausa men, while a small girl barely escaped after running into the bush.
“There are too many attacks now. The POS man was abducted on Sunday night. A community member revealed that the two other individuals, who are Hausa, were also abducted this morning.
Although security personnel and vigilante organizations have been alerted and have begun search operations, he continued, no communication has yet been made with the abductors.
