Before the general elections in 2027, Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has denied rumors that he publicly announced his next political goal.
According to reports, Obasa made the statement after making a live appearance on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines program, when he alluded to a possible candidacy for governor or a Senate seat.
Speaking on the show, the Speaker maintained that his comments had been misunderstood.
“Whether you want to be a senator, governor, or lawmaker, as a politician, you have to wait for the party hierarchy to decide where they want you to go,” he stated. It is not appropriate to mislead people or attempt to misunderstand the party’s objectives.
He reminded supporters and the general public to maintain their composure, emphasizing that his current top concern was the nation’s overall development.

Obasa went on to say, “We are primarily concerned with how to advance the nation. Every day, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu makes tremendous strides.
Obasa clarified that he is not leaving politics, but he acknowledged that he was also considering his post-public life.
Our party is our strength, Nigeria is our home, and the people in the APC are like family. The APC is becoming more powerful every day. Next is life. The speaker said, “So let’s focus on living that life.”
Obasa clarified the realities of political ambition and emphasized the need for aspiration to be in line with party procedures.
“You have to be a member of a political party and have faith in the party’s leadership in order to discuss politics.
“You can no longer decide for yourself what comes next at some point. Naturally, you may want to succeed, but you must also show respect for the party and its leadership,” he clarified.
He said that party officials will ultimately decide how members should proceed before 2027.
The decision of who goes where will ultimately be made by the party leaders. Consequently, it is crucial to discuss and interact with party leaders whether serving as a Speaker, Deputy Governor, Governor, or Senator. Individually, you have to be in line with the process,” Obasa emphasized.
