62 people were arrested by Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses Taskforce officers during a midnight enforcement operation on Friday in various key places on Lagos Island.

Starting at around 1:30 am, the coordinated crackdown focused on areas that were regarded as emerging crime centers, including as Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel axis, Osborne, and other streets.

Officials said there has been an increase in criminal activity and unlawful occupation in certain areas, which calls for immediate action.

As part of a stepped-up effort to clean up the city and address security issues related to the actions of what it called “undesirable elements,” the Lagos State Government explained the operation.

Using his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, Environment and Water Resources Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab acknowledged the enforcement action and the ensuing arrests.

The Environmental Taskforce team’s operatives started their ongoing clean-up enforcement operation on the Island at around 01:30 on Friday, May 23, 2025, as part of the agency’s ongoing effort to purge the State of criminal elements, according to Wahab’s letter.

In addition, he revealed that 62 suspects in all—59 men and 3 women—were captured during the sweep, and that the enforcement action contributed to the restoration of order in all impacted regions.

According to Wahab, “the operation’s visited areas include Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel, Osborne, and other nearby streets where the presence of some undesirable elements was noticed.” “Sanity was restored everywhere.”

According to the law, the Commissioner promised that those who were arrested will be prosecuted.

He declared, “All of the suspects will face the appropriate charges in court.”
