Temitope Temokun, a human rights attorney, has described how Omoyele Sowore, an activist and publisher, was allegedly taken away by almost 10 police officers from the Kuje Magistrate Court on Friday.
Temokun called the event “unnecessary and premeditated” in an interview with Channels Television’s Inside Sources on Sunday. He claimed that people who attempted to record the arrest were assaulted.
“Those who tried to capture the scene were brutalized by the officers,” stated Temokun, who described the incident. I was attacked and hurt as well.
The attorney clarified that within thirty minutes of the magistrate’s decision, the former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate and other defendants detained during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration had fulfilled their bail requirements.
However, Temokun claimed that “officers stormed the court premises and bundled him into a vehicle.”
Sowore was reportedly given bail of ₦500,000 with two sureties by the court.
Temokun also denounced the police for reportedly trying to transfer Sowore to Kuje Prison without the required paperwork.
“They tried to masquerade the situation and patch it up, but the Kuje authorities initially rejected him,” the human rights lawyer continued.
Sowore is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, October 27, 2025, after being detained again despite having complied with the terms of his release.
