To promote long-term change in Nigeria’s tourist industry, the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has urged increased private sector cooperation, innovation, and investment.
In honor of World Tourism Day 2025, which has as its subject “Sustainable Transformation in Tourism,” the Chamber joined the international community in making the call on Friday.
In order to investigate fresh growth prospects for Lagos and Nigeria overall, the event brought together stakeholders from the hospitality, agricultural, and creative sectors.
The significance of partnerships and investment as means of achieving sustainability was emphasized by Dr. Tunde Lawrenson, Vice Chairman of the LCCI Hotel and Tourism Sector and Secretary of the Board of Trustees, Eko Tourism Foundation, in his welcome remarks.
While there are still issues facing the industry, cooperation between private companies is essential to maximizing the potential of tourism, according to Mr. Gabriel Idahosa, FCA, President of LCCI. He advised stakeholders to take advantage of Nigeria’s internationally renowned creative sector to increase tourism and warned against relying too much on the government. Additionally, he minimized insecurity narratives by pointing out that a number of prosperous international locations have comparable difficulties.
In his keynote address, Comrade Hassan Zakari, a past president of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria, stressed the importance of making intentional investments in agritourism and infrastructure for sustained sector growth.
Mr. Aderoju Owosanya, speaking on behalf of the Chairman/CEO of Xtralarge Farms and Resorts; Dr. Amb. Daniel Olabintan, Chairman of the Elders Group, Travel and Tour; and Pastor (Dr.) Olarewaju Saba, MD/CEO of St. Chris Properties & Investment Ltd. were among the other contributors.
Participants had the opportunity to speak with leaders of the sector directly about important topics like infrastructure, youth engagement, and promoting local tourism during an interactive panel discussion.
