A 53-year-old former Royal Marine has been officially charged in relation to the horrific collision that injured 79 people, including a child, during Liverpool’s Premier League triumph parade on Monday.
Around 6:00 p.m. BST, a car allegedly driven by Paul Doyle, a father of three and local businessman from Burghill Road in West Derby, crashed into a group of joyful Liverpool supporters gathered on Water Street. Doyle was taken into custody shortly after the incident.
Emergency personnel reacted to what rapidly became a chaotic and horrifying scene, with a nine-year-old child among those hurt.
Some of the injured are still undergoing treatment for severe injuries, and their ages range from 9 to 78.
Water Street was reopened on Wednesday, May 28, after being closed for cleanup and inquiry.
On Thursday, May 29, Merseyside Police revealed that Mr. Doyle now faces seven serious charges, including two counts of wounding with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm (GBH), one of which includes a child, and two counts of causing unlawful and malicious GBH with purpose.

One count of hazardous driving and two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious GBH with intent—again involving a minor victim—are additional charges.
Seven victims are still in the hospital, according to Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims, who verified this during a press conference. Detectives are still going through “a huge volume” of material, including dashcam recordings, CCTV footage, cell phone videos, and witness interviews.

As the inquiry progresses, the charges are being reviewed, Mersey-Cheshire Crown Prosecution Service Chief Crown Prosecutor Sarah Hammond stated. “It is crucial to guarantee that each victim receives the justice they are entitled to,” she stated.
