Mr Jalingo, the publisher of Cross River Watch, had raised an alarm that a man identified as Richard Unimke was riding his bike around his neighbourhood in Bebuatswan village on July 31, 2023, when he collided with a herd of cattle.

Cross Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the death of a family head, Mr. Adie Ungwugwaye, who was shot by armed men suspected to be cultists at Bebuatswan village in the Obudu Local Government Area of the state.

He said that the man was rushed to the Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital and was discharged after a few days.

According to Jalingo, his condition deteriorated on getting home and he was rushed back to the same hospital but he died on Sunday.

Jalingo said, “Mr. Richard Unimke was riding his bike around his neighborhood in Bebuatswan village in Obudu LGA, on July 31, 2023 and collided with a herd of cattle.

“He was rushed to the Sacred Heart Catholic Hospital and was discharged after some days. His condition deteriorated on getting home and he was rushed back to the same hospital but he died yesterday Sunday.

“Some vagabonds who claim to be representatives of Ipong Youths Council, led by one Sunday Aniah from neighboring Kakum village, who also claimed to be the Vice President of Ipong Youth Council, hurriedly forced a family meeting of the elders to tell who killed Richard Unimke, diabolically.

“At the family meeting, the vagabonds who call themselves youth leaders, shot the family head, Mr. Adie Ungwugwaye, dead and fled. Both bodies are now deposited at the morgue.

“The Police have already visited the crime scene but no culprit has been arrested. It must be noted that this reprehensible behavior has to stop in Cross River State.

“These criminals and murderers who parade themselves as youth leaders in our State must be taken out of circulation into the correction centers.”

“The Police have to get to work now and bring them to book swiftly,” the statement added.

The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Irene Ugbo confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters.

According to Ugbo, Unimke was a member of a cult group.

She said his colleagues went to the house and identified one of his uncles as the one who killed the guy, and they shot him.

“Somebody died, the person that died is a member of a cult group and his alleged colleagues went to the house and pointed one of the uncles as the one that killed the guy, and they shot him.
