Val Obienyem, the Media Adviser to Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, has dispelled rumors that the former Anambra State governor was detained by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his residence in Anambra State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Obienyem described the claims as false and unfounded. He noted that the rumors first emerged on Saturday but were quickly debunked. Despite this, the misinformation has persisted.

Obienyem clarified that Obi was not in Anambra State during the alleged incident. “As of Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda attending to important engagements. He has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, where he is actively involved in party and national matters,” he stated.

“There was no DSS operation at his residence, and no arrest was made.”

The statement also rejected claims that Obi’s wife had been arrested, labeling this as another falsehood designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary alarm among his supporters.

Obienyem urged the public to disregard these false reports and remain alert to the spread of misinformation. He assured that any official updates regarding Mr. Obi would be communicated through the proper channels, emphasizing that Obi remains focused on his national commitments.
