The Zamfara State Police Command has denounced the killing of Halliru Liman, a police officer who was shot dead by military personnel. The command has called for a comprehensive investigation into the incident and for those responsible to be held accountable.

ASP Yazid Abubakar, spokesperson for the command, expressed deep distress over the “senseless killing” of Liman, who was the DPO of Wasagu Division in Kebbi State at the time of his death. According to Abubakar, Liman was en route to a meeting in Birnin Kebbi when he was stopped by military personnel at Danmarke in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara. Despite identifying himself as a police officer, Liman was shot on the spot.

Abubakar explained that Hassan, the leader of the military personnel involved, fired a fatal shot to Liman’s head, resulting in his immediate death. He emphasized that this act of aggression is both shocking and unacceptable.

“The military’s actions are a clear violation of the rules of engagement and the principles of inter-agency cooperation,” Abubakar said. “We urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action to address this egregious incident and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.”

Abubakar also stressed the need for police and military forces to collaborate effectively to maintain public trust and security, rather than engaging in violent confrontations. He extended heartfelt condolences to Liman’s family and colleagues, assuring them of a determined effort to secure justice.
