At least nine terrorists were killed by Operation Hadin Kai, or OPHK, troops on Friday while conducting a combat patrol in Borno State’s Magumeri and Gajiram regions.
This was stated in a statement released on Saturday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai’s Media Information Officer.
He claims that N5 million in cash that had been paid as ransom was also found during the raid.
Residents were terrorized by the terrorists, who were seen burning houses and allegedly traveling on two cars and 24-foot fighters. To stop the threat, their own forces moved quickly and sent out an aggressive fighting patrol.
As soldiers moved closer to the target, the terrorists tried to escape in the direction of Damjiyakiri village. Fighters on foot were chased for around 92 km, while fighters on vehicles scattered to an unidentified place.
Following around four hours of tactical chase, the escaping terrorists were contacted by the army. A frontal assault was promptly initiated, and the forces opened fire on the terrorists, neutralizing five of them as the other nineteen scattered. At the collision scene, blood traces were seen, indicating that several people were injured,” he added.
According to the statement, among the things found during the engagement are one AK-47 rifle (Reg. No. 06798), five magazines (two full and three empty), 31 7.62mm bullets, an Itel cell phone, and a dagger.
It went on to say that the OPHK forces did not report any casualties or equipment losses throughout the operation.
