The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has warned that the military under his watch will not allow any foreign base within the territory of the country.
The Army Chief made this statement while speaking in Sokoto on Boxing Day during his visit to Operation FASAN YAMMA in Sokoto, where he had lunch with the troops at the headquarters of the 8th Division.
He called on neighbouring countries, including Niger Republic, Benin Republic, Chad Republic, and others, to cooperate with Nigeria in order to deal with common enemies together.
He commended the troops for their sacrifice in ensuring the safety and security of the country, especially the victory recorded over Lakurawa and bandits in the Northwest.
“I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to every one of you for your unwavering dedication and sacrifices in ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria, particularly in your deployment to the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
“Despite the inherent challenges, your daily commitment to duty in the field remains a source of inspiration to us all and further exemplifies the true spirit of patriotism required for defeating the threats to our nation’s peace and stability.
“Let me say it here clearly, the military under my watch will not allow any foreign base in the country. No foreign base whatsoever will be allowed in Nigeria.
“The recent deployment of the Special Operations Brigade and some combat enablers to dislodge and eliminate the re-emergence of Lakurawa terrorists from their camps in Sokoto and Kebbi states, and the successes so far achieved, is a testament to our commitment to resolving and combating all security threats across the theatres of operations.
“Accordingly, let me assure you that under my leadership, the Armed Forces of Nigeria will continue to sustain its operational tempo and posture across military deployments both at home and abroad.”
Speaking earlier in his remarks, the General Officer Commanding the 8 Division, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, commended the Chief of Defence Staff for his commitment to the success of the troops in their field.
He assured the Chief of Defence Staff of the continuing efforts of the troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA to ensure the total clearance of criminal hideouts in the state.
He also commended the CDS for the recent promotions of Army officers across different ranks in the Nigerian Army.
