According to Yusuf Ata, the recently appointed Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, his goal is to present Kano State to the All Progressives Congress in 2027.
The situation occurred after Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, the State Minister for Housing and Urban situation in the immediate past, criticized the selection of Ata as his successor, calling it a poor political choice.
“My appointment was mainly for political reasons, APC has lost Kano State and now it will take Kano State,” Ata told reporters shortly after his first trip to Kano following his swearing-in as minister. I’m from Kano Central, which is the primary issue.
We will put in a lot of effort to ensure that the APC takes over Kano State by 2027, and I will remain seated in this ward even as a minister.
As I previously stated, my objective is solely political. I shall carry out my duties even though I am assigned to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, but I will also visit Kano State once a week in an effort to seize control of the state.
The minister thanked President Bola Tinubu for the appointment, stating that it was for the sake of Kano and Nigerian residents as well as himself.
Therefore, he gave the President his word that the APC would take Kano in 2027.
“I have assured the President of this,” he stated.
In a recent government upheaval, the President fired Gwarzo along with four other ministers.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa service on Saturday, Gwarzo stated that in order to boost the party’s performance in the Kano Central senatorial district, the president ought to have selected Nasiru Gawuna, the APC standard-bearer in the 2023 gubernatorial race.
The former minister claimed that political intrigues carried out by certain Kano party chieftains were the reason behind his dismissal rather than subpar work.
“I was shocked to learn that I had not been found guilty of any misconduct or subpar work. Additionally, I served as a minister of state alongside the senior minister, who is in charge of most of the ministry’s operations.
“The President had informed me of his decision prior to the announcement.
He claimed that because Kano North had too many political officers, a balance had to be struck. We offered our counsel, but it was disregarded.That didn’t seem like a good justification to me, so I started to assume that someone was behind this.

“We have our 2023 governorship candidate, who is also our Kano Central leader, if it is true that Kano Central would be given the ministerial post. Why don’t we give him the slot? Gwarzo asked.
He went on to say that Mr. Gawuna’s present role would not allow him to effectively oversee his structures.
“The job offer should go to Gawuna first, unless he declines, in which case it might go to someone else.”
Mr. Gwarzo went on to say, “All of his other colleagues who ran in other states, like the candidates from Plateau and Zamfara states, were given positions.”
The former minister promised to continue supporting the President’s administration and stated that he had accepted his fate and moved on.
