Dele Momodu, the publisher of Ovation Magazine and a former presidential candidate, expressed shock at the overwhelming support President Bola Tinubu is receiving from state governors and warned that if the president wins a second term in 2027, Nigeria could descend into dictatorship.
Momodu criticized the increasing number of governors elected on opposition platforms defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress in an interview on News Central.
Several governors who were once elected by opposition parties have reportedly joined the APC in recent months.
Ahmadu Fintiri, the governor of Adamawa State, is reportedly involved in one of the most recent incidents, which has increased conjecture on the strength of the opposition in advance of 2027.
African Democratic Congress chairman Momodu responded to the trend by accusing the governors of putting political survival ahead of democratic ideals.
