As the most dangerous and sought-after hired assassin in Lagos in recent years, Wasiu Akinwande, also known as Olori Eso, was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.
During a well planned tactical operation known as “Silence, Speed, and Surprise,” the Command’s Tactical Squad apprehended 44-year-old Akinwande at his hideout in Agbado, Ogun State.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Command, revealed in a statement issued on Friday that the suspect, who was known for committing acts of terror in Mushin and the surrounding area, had eluded capture for years before being apprehended in Ogun State.

The statement partially stated that Hundeyin had “arrested Wasiu Akinwade, also known as Olori Eso, the most wanted, vicious, and notorious hired killer and head of killers’ gang in Lagos State history in recent time, and recovered nine sophisticated firearms, ammunition, magazines, dagger, walkie-talkies, and international passports.”
Several armed gangs, involving murder, cult-related violence, armed robbery, and kidnappings, are thought to have been commanded by Akinwande for more than ten years.
Hundeyin declared, “This serial killer suspect is the most wanted person in Lagos history right now.” His apprehension is a significant triumph in our persistent endeavors to tackle violent offenses that jeopardize the security of inhabitants in Mushin and various other parts of Lagos.
A sizable arsenal of guns and other evidence were found by the police in Akinwande’s home. The defendant allegedly admitted using the things for his illicit activities with his gang.
Numerous firearms were confiscated, including two AK-47 rifles, one K2 assault rifle, one Red Ryder rifle, three pump-action rifles, two locally manufactured single-barrel pistols, five magazines, fifty-seven live cartridges, seventy rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, twenty-seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, one expended 5.56 round, one dagger, three walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to various individuals.
Akinwande’s lengthy history of violent acts, according to the Command, has caused his victims and their families great suffering and long-lasting trauma.
“His many crimes, all of which are presently being investigated, have caused trauma, horror, anguish, and pain in the lives of the families impacted by his criminal activities,” the statement continued.
The Deputy Commissioner at the State Criminal probe Department (SCID) has been directed by Commissioner of Police CP Moshood Jimoh to oversee a broader probe and seek additional individuals associated with Akinwande’s network in reaction to his detention.
The DCP at SCID and a group of top detectives have been instructed by the CP to step up their efforts to find all of the suspect’s collaborators and make sure they are prosecuted, Hundeyin stated.
To date, four families have come forward to name Akinwande as the killer of their respective loved ones.
Currently under high security in police custody, the police say they will pursue him to the fullest extent of the law.
