General Christopher Musa (retd.), a recently appointed Minister of Defence and former Chief of Defence Staff, formally took up his duties at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Ship House, Abuja, on Friday.
Following President Bola Tinubu’s nomination, the Senate ratified Musa’s appointment on Thursday. He arrived at the ministry at approximately 11:10 a.m., where he was greeted with full military honors and, in accordance with custom, inspected the quarter guard.
Days have passed since former minister Muhammad Badaru resigned.
The former CDS met in private with the ministry’s directors and service leaders after arriving.
In the meantime, Musa has promised Nigerians that the Federal Government’s updated security plans will produce noticeable outcomes as quickly as possible.
Musa made the promise on Thursday, just after President Tinubu administered the oath of office at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The minister told reporters during the event that his top priorities are to improve cooperation between all security agencies and restructure the country’s defense system.
“Making sure that defense takes full place in the country is my immediate priority,” Musa declared.
He emphasized that “security is everybody’s responsibility” and that the military and other security organizations must work together.
General Musa expressed hope that the nation’s security issues might be resolved more quickly with improved coordination and cooperation.
“We need to build on and work on that synergy, and we will do just that.” Nigerians will witness results in the shortest amount of time, I promise,” he stated.
