Former Governor of Kogi, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has said that his recent ordeal has strengthened his resolve in politics, promising to uphold his role as a leader for the people of the state.
Since his release from the Kuje Custodial Centre after meeting the stringent bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, supporters have been trooping in thousands to his country home in Okene in solidarity.
The former governor also received the Deputy Governor of the State, Comrade Joel Salifu, who led a delegation of political officeholders from Kogi East on a New Year visit to his residence at Okene.
Bello in his remark cautioned against division along ethnic and religious lines, emphasising that unity is vital for progress and prosperity.
According to him, he has been vindicated by his choice of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo as his successor.
Bello, who expressed satisfaction and fulfillment with the choice and performance of the Governor also expressed confidence in the administration.
Bello, therefore, assured that he would remain attentive and offer guidance when needed.
Responding, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu maintained that the visit was to extend a warm welcome to the former Governor and to congratulate him on the New Year.
Comrade Salifu acknowledged that his recent challenges and experiences were in the best interest of the state and commended him for his selfless dedication and for leaving behind a legacy of good governance.
He encouraged the former Governor to continue to remain at ease and courageous, offering prayers for his continued well-being and longevity.
Recall the former Kogi State Governor was released from the Kuje Custodial Centre after meeting the stringent bail conditions set by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja.
The court, presided over by Justice MaryAnne Anenih, granted the bail requiring Bello to post a ₦500 million bond and secure three sureties with properties in prime Abuja locations such as Maitama, Guzape, or Asokoro.
The former governor, alongside co-defendants Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu, is facing a 16-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The charges include conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and unlawful possession of property. All three have pleaded not guilty.
This development marks the beginning of what is expected to be a high-profile legal battle, as Bello and his co-defendants prepare to contest the allegations in court.
