At Ibrahim Babangida University, Lapai, IBBUL, in Niger State, Abdulwahab Abubakar, a 300-level Chemistry Education student, was assassinated. His father has voiced his profound sorrow, saying that his son’s promising future was cut short.
He bemoaned the university’s current state of insecurity and urged the government of Niger State to act quickly to protect students.
Remember how Abdulwahab’s family was devastated and in shock after he was killed in a robbery attack at his lodge on Sunday night at around 2:30 am?
In a tearful interview at his home in Paiko, Paikoro local government, Abdulwahab’s father, Abubakar, called the death of his first son from his third wife, who had a bright future, a “sad blow to the family.”
“I received a call at 3:30 am on Sunday, so I hurried to Lapai by myself with a heavy heart. An hour later, I arrived at the hospital where he was taken. My son was brutally murdered, and I found his lifeless body on the bed. I cried, Kai. His life was abruptly interrupted before it had began.
He bemoaned how Abdulwahab’s passing had not only crushed his family but also caused anxiety in parents whose kids were enrolled in college.

In order to stop similar instances from happening again at IBBUL and other universities in the state, he urged the Niger State government to give students enough security.
“If you are unable to provide security, you cannot ask parents to send their children to school.”
“We work hard and struggle to get our kids to school, so hearing that they’re being killed is discouraging,” he bemoaned.
He claims that because this is the fifth recorded instance of a student being killed at IBBUL, there are now major worries over the safety of students on campus.
My relatives are devastated. But since Allah permitted it to occur, I accept what happened to us as His will. When the time comes, there is nothing anyone can do. As I have stated, let the government take action to halt this trend by implementing practical measures to improve security and guarantee school safety.
When asked whether we could talk to Rabi Abubakar, Abdulwahab’s mother of 45, Abubakar merely replied that she was in too much shock and was not in a good place to talk about her loss.
Even though they have chosen to leave everything to God, Abdulwahab’s cousin Faiza Abdulkadir and his step-sister Zinatu Abubakar lamented the ruthless murder of their brother, saying it has rocked the entire family.
Abdulwahab was laid to rest in Paiko yesterday, Monday, at around 9:30.
