In Port Harcourt, Rivers State, officials from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) recently seized large quantities of fake rice.
The announcement was made by NAFDAC on Thursday, along with images and videos posted on its official social media accounts.
The statement made clear that NAFDAC, along with Big Bull Rice’s manufacturers, raided stores in Port Harcourt’s Woji, Mile 3, and Mile 1 markets and found widespread sales of fake Big Bull corn.
It was discovered that a store on Woji’s YKC axis served as a major distribution hub for the fake rice.
According to the statement, officials discovered a significant quantity of empty fake Big Bull Rice bags among other rice brands, such as Mama Pride, Cap Rice, Stallion Rice, and Tomato Rice, during the operation.
A saleswoman called Ogechi Okafor was detained at the scene, according to the notice.
The things taken from the store included sewing and sealing machines, a stove, a generator, thread, and several rebagged bags of rice, it was also revealed.
NAFDAC’s Rivers State Coordinator, Emmanuel Onogwu, highlighted in the statement the unique qualities that differentiate real Big Bull Rice from fake goods. These qualities include a real branding, better quality bags, and a distinctive sparkly ribbon along the threaded top.

Onogwu said that rebagged rice often comes from questionable sources and might have been treated with dangerous chemicals to make it seem better.
The NAFDAC Zonal Office received more than 120 fake rice sacks that were seized from more than ten different stores and taken for additional inspection, according to the agency.
