The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Armed Forces, and the pilgrims’ welfare boards in 36 states have received N4.4 billion in reimbursements from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
This was announced in an Abuja statement on Thursday by Muhammad Musa, NAHCON’s Head of Public Affairs.
Mr. Musa clarified that the return was related to the incomplete energy services provided by the Saudi authorities during the 2023 Hajj during Masha’ir, or the core Hajj period.
192 authorized tour companies that took part in the 2023 hajj have also received a refund of N917,148,479.99 from the Commission.
The remaining participating companies will likewise receive their money back following a proper reconciliation, while this sum is meant to be disbursed to their individual pilgrims.
“Under the direction of its Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Usman, NAHCON is committed to maintaining accountability and transparency in the administration of Hajj operations, and this refund demonstrates that commitment.”
All pilgrims who took part in the 2023 hajj were encouraged to get in touch with their respective State Pilgrims’ Welfare Agencies, Boards, and Commissions, or tour operators in order to request their reimbursements, Mr. Musa clarified.

Every pilgrim has the right to a reimbursement of N61,080.00. Attached to this press release is a comprehensive breakdown of pilgrims by state and the associated numbers.
All pilgrims planning to perform the Hajj in 2025 are now urged by the commission to swiftly deposit their hajj fares with the appropriate state pilgrims board.
“This step is crucial to guarantee the prompt transfer of funds to NAHCON, which will enable early planning for the 2025 Hajj in strict adherence to the regulations established by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC), and other pertinent security agencies are urged by NAHCON to keep a careful eye on the refund procedure in the interest of openness and due process.
According to Mr. Musa, “the goal of this partnership is to guarantee that all refunds are properly distributed and reach the intended beneficiaries without any inconsistencies.”
