On Monday, a National Assembly joint committee expressed approval with the Nigerian Army’s proposed 2026 budget of N1.504,251,069,722 trillion.
Through efficient control of the pertinent authorities for the budget’s execution, the House Committee promised the Nigerian Army that it would make sure the amounts appropriated are distributed.
Following a joint budget defense of the Joint Committee with Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu in Abuja, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the Senate Committee on Army’s chairman, made the announcement.
After hearing the Chief of Army Staff’s presentation, all members of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Army expressed satisfaction with the joint session on the 2026 budget, he added.
The delay in the release of funding, which affects all other MDAs, is the main problem, according to the joint committee’s members.
But I want to reassure the Chief of Army Staff that we will work with him to make it happen. The Army plays a vital role in our national life, and we would help you with anything you require.
The COAS and his officers and men were praised by Hon. Aminu Balele, the chairman of the House Committee on Army, for their dedication and patriotism in the war against insurgency and defense of the country’s territorial integrity.
He pledged that his committee will keep working to ensure that monies are released on schedule so the Army may fulfill its constitutional obligations.
Balele promises that the committee will continue to exercise the highest level of responsibility in its oversight role.

The Senate’s Women Affairs committee expressed disapproval of the extremely subpar funding disbursements made to the Ministry’s overhead and capital components of the 2025 budget.
Demand an upward assessment of the Women Affairs Ministry’s 2026 budget plan, which was presented by the Minister on Monday before the Senate Committee on Women Affairs’ budget defense session.

We have major concerns about the appropriations and disbursements of finances for your ministry, as demonstrated in your recent presentations on the 2025 budget. First, we need to deal with that issue,” she stated.
Out of the N89.8 billion allotted for capital expenditures, the Minister stated in her earlier presentations on the performance of the 2025 budget and the estimates made for 2026 that only N394 million was released in December and was not even used. In 2025, the same thing occurred with the distribution of funds appropriated for our overhead; just N471 million of the N2.8 billion appropriated was issued, she stated.
She also stated that N134 2 billion was set aside for the ministry in 2026, of which N2.1 billion was allocated for personnel costs, N131.2 billion for capital, and N810.9 million for administrative costs.
