Regarding what it called “malicious and misleading falsehoods” against the management of the Petroleum Training Institute (P.T.I.) in Effurun, Delta State, Sahara Reporters have been strongly condemned by the National Urhobo Vanguard Apex Body.
The group said in a press release issued on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and jointly signed by Chief Daniel Umukoro and Hon. Bamwa Austine (Chairman), that the publication was a deliberate attempt to damage the institute’s reputation and mislead the public with unsubstantiated reports of flooded classrooms and hostels infested with snakes.
Representing a nationwide coalition of Urhobo interest groups, the body said it conducted an independent evaluation of P.T.I. facilities and concluded the accusations were malicious and without merit.

As a socio-cultural watchdog dedicated to honesty and openness, the statement said, in part, “We visited the campus and found that all classrooms, dorms, and equipment are in excellent condition, with modern drainage systems in place to prevent any form of flooding.”
The organization also threatened to take legal action to seek reparation if Sahara Reporters did not issue a public apology in three national publications within seven days.
Journalism like this is dangerous and unethical. It undercuts institutions that are making strides and working hard. In the Niger Delta, P.T.I. is still regarded as one of the most prestigious universities, the statement continued.
Noting that such publications simply serve to divert attention from the institute’s developmental advances, the National Urhobo Vanguard Apex Body urged the public to ignore the fake allegation.
