NAWOJ, Lagos State Chapter Partners FRSC Lagos Command on Road Safety Advocacy

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Command at its Sector Headquarters in Ojodu, Lagos. The visit aimed at fostering a strong and impactful collaboration between NAWOJ, Lagos, and the FRSC in promoting road safety advocacy, public enlightenment, and responsible media reportage.
The Sector Commander, Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, warmly received the NAWOJ Lagos delegation alongside his team, which included DCC Bridget Njoku (DCC Training), CRC Godwin Umweni (Transport Standardization Officer), CRC Paul Abiti (Special Duties and External Relations), RC Elizabeth O. Jayeola (Public Relations Officer), and ARC Rasheed O. Lawal (Staff Officer, Sector Commander/Protocol).
The Chairperson, NAWOJ, Lagos State Chapter, Dr. Mrs. Adeola Ekine led the deligation in company of Comrade Bunmi Yekini (Vice Chairperson), Comrade Omolola Olamijulo (Assistant Secretary), Comrade Sherifat Shittu (Treasurer), Comrade Olasumbo Modupe (Internal Auditor), and Princess Alaba Igbaraoola (Chairperson, Photojournalist Association of Nigeria – PJAN).
In her address, Dr. Mrs. Adeola Ekine, Chairperson NAWOJ Lagos State Chapter commended the FRSC Lagos Command for its relentless efforts in ensuring safer roads across the state. She highlighted the critical role that journalists, especially women in the media, play in educating the public on road safety measures and responsible driving habits.
The NAWOJ Chairperson emphasized the need for continuous public enlightenment campaigns on road safety and called for a partnership that will enable journalists to work closely with the FRSC to disseminate accurate information on traffic rules, safety measures, and emergency response protocols.
In his response, the Sector Commander, Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to collaborating with NAWOJ Lagos. He noted that road safety is a collective responsibility and that the media remains a crucial partner in shaping public perception and behavior regarding road usage.
The Sector Commander also stressed the importance of responsible media reportage in preventing the spread of misinformation about road incidents. He encouraged journalists to verify facts before publication and work closely with the FRSC’s Public Relations Office for accurate and timely updates.
NAWOJ Lagos pledged to use its media platforms to enhance public awareness on road safety and responsible driving culture. Dr. Mrs. Ekine assured the FRSC Lagos Command of NAWOJ’s readiness to work with the corps in amplifying messages that encourage safety on the roads.
The Chairperson further stressed the efforts of the Sector Commander in reducing road crashes and ensuring safety on the highways, in recognition of his unwavering commitment to road safety and public service, the Sector Commander, Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat, was decorated by the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Lagos as a NAWOJ, Lagos Ambassador. This honor highlights his dedication to fostering a safer road culture and his collaboration with media professionals in driving impactful public awareness campaigns.
The visit marks the beginning of a strengthened partnership between NAWOJ Lagos and FRSC, aimed at leveraging media advocacy to drive behavioral change and promote safer road practices among motorists and road users in Lagos State.
