The Kano State Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) revealed on Thursday that it successfully prosecuted 22 drug dealers within the state in July 2024.

Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad confirmed the convictions, describing them as a significant achievement in the ongoing battle against illicit drug trafficking and abuse.

“We have convicted 22 drug dealers,” Idris-Ahmad stated. “During one arrest, Abubakar Mu’azu engaged in an altercation and stabbed an NDLEA officer.”

“Mu’azu was subsequently sentenced to three years in a correctional center, while the others received various terms of imprisonment,” he added.

Highlighting the range of illicit substances seized, Idris-Ahmad emphasized the command’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and prosecuting offenders.

He credited the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba-Marwa, for his steadfast support in the fight against drug abuse.

“No form of intimidation or violence will deter our operatives from pursuing justice,” Idris-Ahmad affirmed. “Our professionals are dedicated to ensuring that those involved in drug-related crimes face legal consequences.”

In urging public cooperation, Idris-Ahmad called on residents to report any suspicious drug-related activities promptly to the agency, emphasizing the community’s role in achieving a drug-free society.
