Nenadi Usman, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), has urged Julius Abure and his supporters to run for office again.
At the next national congress, Abure and others will have the chance to run for the party’s chairmanship and other positions, according to the LP National Chairman.
She urged those who felt wronged to set aside their self-interests and work toward political party harmony and improvement.
Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, was fired by the Federal High Court in Abuja in January.
The Supreme Court’s decision from April 4, 2025, was cited by judge Peter Lifu in his decision to proclaim former Finance Minister Nenadi Usman the legitimate leader of the party.
The court ruled that, until the Labour Party’s national convention, INEC must acknowledge the caretaker committee led by Usman as “the only valid authority to represent the Labour Party.”
However, Abure and his caretaker committee have refused to give up. They insisted that they remain the party’s leaders in a statement released on Tuesday.
“I urge everyone to put the party’s interests ahead of their own. “Come and let’s collaborate,” Usman urged Wednesday in Abuja at the party’s national Secretariat during a one-day high-level strategic multi-level stakeholders conference with the topic Reuniting the Labour Party Family: consolidating strength for sustainable political influence.
“And anyone who is adamant about holding a place in the party congress should run for office.
“You will be proclaimed the victor and take over as the party’s leader or be the candidate for whatever position you are running for.”
