In Sabon Wuse, in the Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State, a gas tanker exploded, severely damaging a large number of cars, stores, and food supplies, forcing business owners to estimate their losses.
According to what is known, the gas explosion happened on Saturday at around 11 p.m. as a gas tanker was releasing its contents at a nearby filling station.
Abdullahi Baba-Arah, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, stating that while no one was killed, the damage was significant.
According to Channels Television, witnesses said the explosion sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, making many afraid.

A adjacent gas station was impacted by the resulting fire, which quickly spread to consume many stores and parked cars.
Musa Aliyu, who lives in Sabon Wuse, described the situation as horrific.
Because of how fierce the fire was, people from all around the town could see its flames. Fearful, they fled their houses. “We thank Allah that nobody was hurt, but there was a lot of destruction,” he said.
It took several hours for firefighters to arrive at the scene, but by then, the fire had already destroyed a large amount of valuable property.

In order to prevent such incidents, locals have urged authorities to impose stricter safety regulations on gas and motor fuel outlets. This explosion brings to light the risks associated with handling flammable materials.
