Lawmakers of the Niger State House of Assembly have called on the state government to swiftly renovate the School of Health Technology, Tungan Magajiya, in Rijau Local Government Area, following extensive destruction caused by a fire incident that left the institution in ruins.
The school was severely damaged in a July 29 fire allegedly started by unknown individuals.
Moving a motion to that effect, Hon. Bello Bako, representing Rijau Constituency, urged the government to commence reconstruction and replace properties lost in the blaze.
In a related development, the House adopted the report of its Standing Committee on Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs, which highlighted several challenges facing the 25 local government areas in the state.
The issues identified include poor revenue generation, overreliance on statutory allocations, and disregard for procurement procedures.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkindaji, directed that the recommendations be transmitted to the executive arm for implementation.
