According to the Nigerian Air Force, numerous suspected terrorists who were hibernating at Alawa Forest in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State were killed by aerial attacks on Thursday.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA, a special offensive designed to drive terrorists from the country’s northwest and north central areas, was alleged to have carried out the airstrikes.
The mission also destroyed the terrorists’ forest logistical base, according to a statement from Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Information and Public Relations (DOPRI).

Credible intelligence and subsequent confirmatory aerial surveillance activities that showed an influx of armed terrorists into the forest served as the foundation for this operation, which was carried out on January 21, 2025.
Several innocent people were killed in two IED strikes in Bassa, Shiroro LGA, on December 19, 2024, which were among the numerous acts of violence connected to these perpetrators.

“The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) responded by conducting a three-day airstrike, code-named KONAN DAJI, to weaken the militants’ capabilities and make the forest uninhabitable for them.
In pursuit of this objective, AC OPFY sent out a group of fighter planes to conduct air interdiction operations in the region. Multiple secondary explosions attested to the planes’ rapid engagement of the targeted targets with precision strikes upon arrival, which destroyed their supply hub and neutralized numerous armed combatants.
In tight cooperation with ground forces, the NAF is steadfast in its will to uphold operational supremacy throughout the area. He stated that persistent efforts are being made to eradicate all criminal elements from Alawa Forest and the adjacent areas, guaranteeing communities in Niger State and beyond long-term peace and security.
