The Niger State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has released its 2025 action plan and cropping calendar.
The plan outlines various activities and programs aimed at boosting agricultural production in the state.
Dr. Matthew Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of the Niger State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, made the disclosure during a presentation of the ministry’s and its agencies’ end-of-year report and 2025 action plan in Minna.
The event also served as a send-off for Hajiya Mainiuna Tanko, who recently retired as Director of Produce and Pest Control from the ministry.
Ahmed explained that the action plan was designed to enhance farmers’ productivity, improve food security, and promote economic growth.
The plan includes monitoring and visits to dry season sites, in-house staff training, and the establishment of school gardens.
Other activities include quarterly nutrition programs, pre-season training for farmers, farmer data capturing, and monthly technical review meetings.
The ministry will also train youths in drone technology and other smart agricultural practices.
Additionally, the ministry plans to distribute agro-inputs to farmers across the 25 local government areas of the state.
Various projects will be implemented, such as the Green Field Day, Brown Field Day, and the National Agricultural Show.

Ahmed emphasized the importance of the action plan, stating that it would help drive the state’s agricultural sector forward.
The ministry also unveiled its 2024 achievements, showcasing significant strides in transforming the state’s agricultural sector.
Director of Agricultural Services, Malam Ali Maikasuwa, presented the achievements, highlighting initiatives aimed at boosting food security, employment, and economic growth.
These initiatives include the procurement and distribution of 100 trucks of fertilizer to farmers at a 20 percent subsidy.
The ministry collaborated with Niger Foods Logistic Company to acquire 1,000 tractors and mechanization equipment worth over N34 billion.
The Commissioner of Agriculture in Niger State, Alhaji Musa Salihu Bawa Bosso, commended the retired director for her dedication to work and meaningful contributions to the ministry’s development.
During the event, the ministry honored 25 outstanding staff members with certificates of awards and cash prizes for their exceptional performance, hard work, and dedication to duty.
