On Sunday, December 28, 2025, Nigeria will host the inaugural African Boxing Congress and a Boxing Gala Night in Lagos.

Officials from over twenty national federations on the continent are anticipated to attend the event, laying the groundwork for what many in the sport consider to be a significant advancement for African boxing.

After African Boxing provided its approval, the Nigeria Boxing Federation, under the leadership of Honourable Wale Edun, obtained the rights. Operating under World Boxing, the worldwide organization in charge of Olympic-style boxing, African Boxing serves as the boxing authority for the continent.

Nigeria is “a strategic nation with the capacity to lead a holistic advancement of the squared ropes sports in the continent,” according to a letter written by African Boxing to the NBF.

Additionally, the communication verified that Hon. Omonlei Imadu, the vice president of the NBF, had been added to the African Boxing Working Committee. In addition, he will lead the December conference as Head of Organization.

Imadu was thrilled about the role and the chance it offers.

“As a federation, we would use every effort to organize a successful tournament in December. As the organization’s leader, I am very thrilled about the idea of holding the congress in Nigeria since it will establish the NBF and our country as a focal point for the continent’s top boxing decision-making body,” he stated.

Nigeria is well-positioned to host the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles thanks to its successful proposal. Additionally, it creates opportunities for developmental initiatives to promote Olympic-style boxing in Nigeria.

African Boxing has announced that its continental headquarters will be set up in Lagos in an additional vote of confidence.
