Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens made their long-awaited debut in the 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia on Monday, defeating test-playing New Zealand by two runs.
Rain in Sarawak caused the game to be delayed, much like it did against Samoa on Saturday. However, the Nigerian team’s brilliance was not to be dampened, as the contest started more than two hours later than planned and with fewer overs.

In a steady innings, captain Lucky Piety hit Nigeria’s first six at a Women’s World Cup, and the Junior Yellow Greens ended with 65 runs at a cost of six wickets in 13 overs.
Sarah Bakhita’s side knew they needed to bring their bowling to the celebration, so they took it slow in the second innings and eventually defeated the fourth-ranked country for 63 runs at a cost of six wickets.
