In order to explore collaborations for developing Nigeria’s aviation industry, Festus Keyamo, the minister of aviation and aerospace development, met with Yu Dunhai, the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, and a group from the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) on Tuesday.
Tim Chen, vice-president of AVIC-KDN Airport Engineering Co. Ltd.; Ma Mengyao, general manager of AVIC-KDN Airport Engineering, in Nigeria; Michael C. Luo, technology director; and Deng Zhiliang, deputy head of the marketing department, were among the COMAC delegation led by Yang Yang, vice-president of the marketing and sales committee.
The discussions were held separately in Abuja, according to a statement released on Wednesday by Tunde Moshood, the minister’s special assistant on communications and the media.
The Chinese government’s commitment to advancing the minister’s plan for the growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector was reiterated by Dunhai.
Since Nigeria is the largest country in Africa and the sixth most populous country in the world, he pointed out that aviation is a major driver of economic growth and improved connectivity and that there are many chances for mutually beneficial collaboration.
“I can see the potential in Nigeria’s market. The economy will soon recover, and China is prepared to be a dependable ally on this path of expansion,” Dunhai stated.

In a different meeting, the vice-president of COMAC’s marketing and sales committee discussed potential areas of cooperation with Nigerian airlines, specifically in the areas of long-term cooperation, technical support services, and aircraft leasing.
According to Moshood, Keyamo, who had previously visited COMAC’s headquarters in China, praised the talks and confirmed Nigeria’s willingness to form strategic alliances with the massive Chinese airline.
To further these talks, the minister stated, “We are prepared for this partnership and will shortly lead a delegation of domestic airline executives to COMAC’s headquarters.”
“Nigeria is amenable to letting COMAC use our nation as a base to reach the larger African market.”
The statement claims that the twin visits are a major step toward improving Nigeria-China aviation ties and that they will provide domestic airlines with new opportunities to obtain cutting-edge aircraft leasing and support services catered to Nigeria’s growing aviation industry.
