This weekend, Ese Brume, a long jump athlete from Nigeria, will begin her season at the 115th Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
This competition is expected to draw elite amateur and professional competitors from all over the world, making it a noteworthy event on the track and field calendar.
Ese Brume, who placed fifth in the August 2024 Olympics in Paris, is making her competitive comeback this weekend.
After suffering a severe vehicle accident in the United States last December, she has shown incredible fortitude in her recuperation. In March, following a strained neck and damaged ankle, she started mild training.

In this very demanding event, Brume will compete against a strong field that includes 2021 Olympian Naij Quanesha Brooks and 2024 Olympic gold medallist and three-time U.S. champion Tara Davis-Woodhall.
With high expectations for her performance, Brume is focused on taking back her podium spot as she begins a World Championship year.
In an interview with Making of Champions, Brume talked about her experience in Paris and her renewed resolve.
“It was an incredible experience for me, to be honest,” she remarked. “In retrospect, I didn’t compete much this year because of ailments. This will be the final time I fail to win a medal in a major tournament, I swear to myself and the world.
Brume, 29, has already established herself as one of Nigeria’s most renowned athletes. Her excellent record includes four African titles, two Commonwealth gold medals, and the African record in women’s long jump, which she set in 2021 with an incredible distance of 7.17 meters.
