A crucial meeting between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced in Abuja.
This meeting follows ASUU’s recent threat to strike over allegations that the federal government has failed to meet its demands.
Earlier, Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman indicated last Friday, during a briefing marking his one-year anniversary in office, that the government would engage with ASUU representatives the following Monday. However, the meeting was postponed without explanation.

The primary goal of this meeting is to prevent a potential nationwide strike in the country’s public universities.
ASUU’s delegation, led by President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, is currently participating in the meeting at the Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Education.
Also present are the Minister of Education and senior staff from the Ministry. The ASUU delegation includes former presidents of the union, with immediate past president Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi among them.
