The Federal Government has made a passionate appeal to the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to call-off their seven-day warning strike, as negotiations for the release of their kidnapped colleague, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, has reached a critical stage.
Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, made the plea on Thursday during a visit to the National Eye Centre in Kaduna, emphasizing government’s commitment to ensuring Popoola’s safe return.
Alausa revealed that high-level discussions are underway, involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the Commissioner of Police, to secure Popoola’s release. He expressed optimism, stating, “We are on top of the matter… everyone is working hard to see that she is released.

“We don’t believe this warning strike will do anything. All hands are on deck to secure her release.
“For the past two days, we know she is alive and that’s good news for us as the security are working hard to bring her back alive,” he said.
The minister had previously met with NARD leadership on Monday, urging them to call off the strike, which he believes would only exacerbate the situation.
He assured that “all hands are on deck” to rescue Popoola, citing positive developments in the past two days, including confirmation of her being alive.
The government’s appeal comes as the nation’s healthcare system faces potential disruption from the resident doctors’ strike, amid concerns for Popoola’s safety and well-being.
