According to Grammy-winning musician Burna Boy, gatekeepers in the Nigerian music industry did all in their power to impede his career’s advancement.
He made this revelation in response to a widely shared excerpt from a recent interview in which seasoned music executive Obi Asika asserted that Burna Boy’s career was thwarted by some gatekeepers in the Nigerian music industry, but he managed to go past them and become a global sensation.
Burna Boy said, “This is not even half of the story,” in the comments section of a blog that shared the video on Instagram. They tried everything they could to shatter me. They’re still giving it their all. Funny. However, all they accomplished was to start an insatiable fire that will burn them forever.

With the release of his smash song “Like To Party,” from his debut album “L.I.F.E (Leaving an Impact for Eternity),” Burna Boy gained global attention.
In the years that followed, his career took a nosedive and he was reduced to an underground performer.
But when his breakthrough single, “Ye,” from the highly regarded album “Outside,” was released, his career took off on a global scale.
After Burna Boy’s breakthrough abroad, Nigerian music leaders and fans started buying from him once more.
In recent years, he has been the most popular African touring performer.
