The Nigerian Police Force has nabbed popular musician and dancer Idowu Smart Emmanuel, commonly known as Lil Smart, for allegedly defaming his former label head Naira Marley.
According to reports, Lil Smart previously accused Naira Marley of kidnapping and abusing him.
He further said that Naira Marley bribed all Lagos police officers in order to avoid prosecution, and he accused him in a credit card fraud scheme.
Lil Smart was arrested on January 28, 2025, at his home in Megamound Estate, Ajah, Lagos.
During a press briefing, the Nigeria Police Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest, saying that Lil Smart was being held for criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and spreading lies about Naira Marley.
“Suspect arrested for criminal defamation and cyberstalking. – Following a legal firm’s petition, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime arrested Idowu Smart Emmanuel, a resident of Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, for criminal defamation, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and lie against Abdulazeez Adeshina Fashola (A.K.A Naira Marley).

“Investigations found that the suspect, using his Instagram name @lilsmart_, fraudulently claimed that he was abducted, assaulted, and robbed of $300, as well as that Naira Marley bribed all police officers in Lagos and was involved in credit card fraud.
“The suspect then admitted in writing that the allegations were fraudulent and that there was no proof to back up his claims. “He was apprehended on January 28, 2025, at his residence in Megamound Estate, Ajah, Lagos, and the exhibits used in this crime were recovered,” the statement continues.
