Imaobong Nse Uko, a Nigerian athlete, has maintained that she is not at fault for breaking anti-doping regulations.
On June 5, 2024, Imaobong Nse Uko was found guilty by the Athletics Integrity Unit of breaking its anti-doping regulation. The AIU June 2025 punishment list included her, and she has been suspended for two years.
The AIU did not specify the exact nature of the offense, but it is classified as a non-doping infraction, like whereabouts failures.
Uko shall be prohibited from competing in any professional competition from the date of the infringement until June 23, 2026, as a result of this sentence.
Uko, the triple gold medallist in the 2021 World Under-20 competition, responded to the sentence by accusing the Athletics Federation of Nigeria of being responsible for the two-year ban. She accused the organization of being careless and corrupt, which caused her to break the anti-doping regulation.
The problem started, she said, when she encountered technical issues utilizing the online whereabouts system that athletes must use in accordance with drug-testing procedures.
Uko claimed that “a flawed system and a corrupt federation that has failed to support” her when she most needed it were to blame for the predicament.
She claimed that even after several attempts to get in touch with the federation authorities, the AFN had not stepped in to help her.
“I had trouble for months with an online system designed to disclose my whereabouts, which is an essential need for athletes who are being tested for drugs. When I constantly asked for assistance, I was told to wait and given a litany of excuses about network problems, Imaobong Nse Uko posted on Instagram. “I frequently received no response to my messages, which made me feel abandoned by the very organization that is meant to safeguard and assist athletes.”
I was devastated to learn that I would eventually be suspended. I challenged the federation officials throughout the hearing, questioning them about why they failed to help me with my technical issues. They gave me a hazy response and said I had sent in my information in error, which I vehemently dispute.
Among the many people I contacted for assistance were Mbachi Louis and Mrs. Onos, who at first ignored my messages, giving me the impression that she was no longer approachable. Ironically, when I called her on the day of my hearing, she did not answer when I asked for assistance.

Additionally, I got a message from the AFN’s Assistant Secretary, Taldang, promising to help. But when I most needed his assistance, he fell short.
“The federation that is meant to defend our rights as athletes has shown corruption and carelessness in this circumstance. I won’t be quiet while they abuse their position of authority and harm our careers.
In order to raise awareness of the structural problems that beset our sports organizations, I am telling my tale. Athletes need to band together and demand transparency and accountability. A malfunctioning system shouldn’t have to affect anyone.
