A legal practitioner, Ekimini Udim, has decried that Nigeria’s judiciary is still operating manually, stressing that it needs to embrace technology.
Udim made this statement on Friday, while responding to questions in an interview on Channels Television.
“In this country today, appeals stay for up to five years. If your filing is divided in three years, that means your matter is very lucky. Even after counsel has filed all that needed to be filed, it still takes a lot of time before that appeal is visited. And sometimes you don’t also blame the judges. It is because they are being overworked.
“Go to a typical trial court in Lagos, and you see that they just could have as much as 30 cases on the first place to try, and other places you have 40.
“So Nigeria knows what to do to the justice system. I have said that the legislature enjoys so much budgetary allocation and also enjoys technology. The executive also enjoys the same as compared to the judiciary.”
