This year’s FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup qualification series will see Nigeria’s Flamingos advance to the final round after defeating South Africa 5-1 overall.
Harmony Chidi, who scored two goals in the first leg of the match in South Africa, skillfully headed the ball into the net in the 37th minute of the second leg in Ogun State, Nigeria, from a tight angle. After winning 3-1 in the first leg on South African soil, Flamingos’ lead was increased with this goal.
Shakirat Moshood, who had already scored a goal in the first game, once again demonstrated her inventiveness. She scored with a perfect ball from a well-placed free kick on the right side eleven minutes into the second half. Aishat Animashaun expertly floated the ball over South African goalkeeper Samekelise Mthembu when the set piece reached him, extending Nigeria’s lead and further discouraging the visiting squad.

Even though South Africa’s Bantwana made a great effort, with standout performances from Zoe October, Thoriso Mphelo, Khmezi Khoza, and team captain Katleho Malebana, they were unable to break through the strong Nigerian defense.
Composed defenders Favour Iheagwam, Philomena Isaiah, Jumai Adebayo, and Hannah Ibrahim showed remarkable organization and tenacity, blocking all of the South African team’s scoring efforts.
With this resounding triumph, Flamingoes demonstrated their supremacy in the qualifying stages and set the ground for a thrilling final matchup against the winner of the following match between Algeria and Botswana next month.
