An interim injunction has been obtained by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leadership from a Federal Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to prevent a faction of the party from electing parallel national and state executives to manage the entity.
The NNPP’s national leadership, which supports Dr. Musa Kwankwaso, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, and the camp, which supports Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the party’s founder, are engaged in a power struggle over control of the party’s 2022 organizational structure.

A national convention and congresses are held to elect new officers, and Aneibonam refrain from posing as NNPP members.
Those behind the plot were no longer NNPP members, according to Ladipo Johnson, the party’s national publicity secretary, who sent a copy of the directive to the Nigerian Tribune in Ibadan on Thursday.
By “towing their line on issues and attempting to confuse the public about the rightful leadership, logo, and colors of the New Nigeria Peoples Party,” Johnson said that Aniebonam and other party chieftains in his camp had been ousted by the NNPP long ago.

According to the NNPP spokesperson, “The court’s order also prohibits them, their agents, or servants from performing any official activity for and on behalf of, or in the name of the NNPP.”
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was also barred by the court from tracking their unlawful congresses or receiving or responding to any correspondence from them.
“We know that these ex-members are being utilized to try to divert our attention. The party does, however, hope that they will show up in court so that their unlawful use of the party’s name can be stopped,” Johnson asserted.
