The Plateau State Government has denied rumors that the Department of State Services (DSS) purposefully obstructed attempts to address recent gunman attacks on villages.
Secretary to the State Government Samuel Jatau said in a statement on Tuesday that the accusations were “misleading, erroneous, and aimed at causing disaffection and acrimony” between the DSS and the state.
The Plateau State Government’s Facebook page posted a statement disputing social media reports claiming the DSS confiscated guns intended for the Plateau Neighbourhood Watch organization, Operation Rainbow, in order to thwart its ability to respond to the violence.
Jatau stated, “There is a false narrative circulating on Facebook and other social media platforms that claims the Department of State Services confiscated firearms that were purchased for the Plateau State Neighborhood Watch organization, Operation Rainbow.

The study also implied that the seizure was taken on purpose in order to delay the agency’s reaction to the recent violent attacks on certain populations in the state. We would like to make it very evident that this is not at all true.
“The Department of State Services has never prevented or interfered with government initiatives to combat insecurity in Plateau State, not even inadvertently.
He explained that efforts to save lives and bring peace back to the Plateau had been greatly aided by the DSS.
“On the contrary, the Department has proven to be a very dependable partner and has assisted the state in reducing insecurity in all manners.”
Because those reports are false, deceptive, and intended to sow discord and disenchantment between the state government and the Department of State Services, the public is consequently recommended to disregard them.
