The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has promised to seize cars that have tinted lenses in an attempt to combat the nation’s escalating security issue.
At a press conference held Tuesday at the command’s headquarters in Abuja, Commissioner of Police CP Olatunji Rilwan Disu made the announcement. No one has the right to tint car windows, he said, adding that “tinted glasses are contributing to a lot of lawlessness in the country.”
“The police are cracking down on all commercial vehicles and people who tint their vehicles,” Disu explained. Law enforcement officials “need to see people in their vehicles,” he said. Tinted glasses prevented people from recognizing that they were in danger, he said, citing cases when freed kidnap victims disclosed.
The commissioner also mentioned how many offenders purposefully choose not to have numbers on their cars or cover their license plates. This is to inform everyone living in the Federal Capital Territory that police will now enforce all regulations pertaining to tinted glasses. He cautioned, “No one has the right to tint their car.”
