Ahmed Audi, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), officially resigned from his position on Friday after reaching the required retirement age.
At events honoring World Civil Defense Day in 2026 at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja, Audi celebrated his last day in office.
According to reports, Audi was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari and took office on March 1, 2021.
With his departure, the paramilitary agency, which is tasked with disaster management, civil defense, and safeguarding vital national infrastructure and assets, would no longer have a leader for almost five years.
His successor had not yet been announced by the Federal Government at the time this story was filed.
World civic Defence Day is an annual celebration that emphasises the value of emergency response services and civic protection, and Audi’s retirement fell on this day.
Senior officers and coworkers convened at the headquarters to commemorate the event, which also served as a symbolic farewell for the departing Commandant-General.
Audi is from Nasarawa State and was born on September 30, 1967. He graduated from Nasarawa State University in Keffi with a PhD in public administration and the University of Calabar with a master’s degree in public business administration.
Additionally, he holds a membership in the National Institute (mni), a distinguished professional association within the Nigerian public sector.
Since his resignation, stakeholders are waiting for an official announcement in the coming days regarding the Federal Government’s next step in selecting a new leader for the NSCDC.
