In response to the terrible petroleum truck accident that occurred at Dikko Junction, Gurara Local Government, Niger State, over the weekend, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) expressed their condolences on Sunday to the victims, their families, friends, and communities.

In a statement that was co-signed by its president, Comrade Williams Akporeha, and general secretary, Comrade Olawale Afolabi, NUPENG expressed its profound sadness over the deaths, property damage, and injuries suffered by numerous individuals in this tragic event.

“The victims and their loved ones are in our prayers and thoughts during this difficult and traumatic time.”
Additionally, pointing out that federal roads were in poor condition, the Union urged the federal government to act quickly to fix them.

The federal government was also tasked with ordering its pertinent agencies to take the lead in educating Nigerians about the risks associated with collecting fuel from the scene of gasoline truck spills.

The Union uses this chance to encourage the federal government to fix damaged roads immediately in order to stop these kinds of accidents and to step up public awareness campaigns about the risks of picking up fuel from petroleum tankers that have crashed on highways.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the impacted families and the whole Dikko community in Niger State. We honor the first responders who heroically put out the fire and saved numerous injured people.

“All pertinent authorities are urged to take action to stop future tragedies and to give the injured the support and medical attention they need.”

“May the deceased’s souls rest in peace, and may their families find the fortitude to endure these irreversible losses,” NUPENG remarked.
