Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, rejected claims that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has divided into factions on Wednesday, insisting that the party is still one cohesive political platform.
Wike reportedly made the claim in an interview with reporters in Abuja following a tour of the Federal Capital Territory’s current infrastructure projects.
The former governor of Rivers State clarified that disagreements amongst party members are common in politics, but he emphasized that these disagreements do not result in the party having several factions.
In response to worries over internal party fractures, Wike said that despite internal disputes among some members, the PDP is still a single political organization.
He claimed that continuing talks to make amends with disgruntled members are a component of the party’s efforts to fortify itself in advance of its upcoming national convention.
“It would be incorrect to suggest otherwise, in my opinion, as there is only one PDP,” Wike stated.
He claims that it is common for some members of political organizations to be unhappy.
He pointed out that attempts are already being made to settle disagreements and bring the party back together.
The FCT minister went on to say that efforts at party reconciliation would go on even after the PDP National Convention, which is set for March 29 and 30.
He made it clear that continuing talks to settle disputes between party stakeholders would not be hampered by the convention.
Wike thinks that communication is still a crucial tactic for resolving issues brought up by disgruntled members.
The minister went on to say that the party has a strict schedule for holding its primary elections.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s standards and the terms of the Electoral Act, Wike revealed that the PDP primaries are anticipated to take place between April 23 and May 13.
He emphasized that there is minimal opportunity for delays in the party’s internal procedures due to the schedule.
“This timeline leaves little room for delays,” he added.
