Rt Hon (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has called on the state judiciary to work with other branches of government to solve urgent cybersecurity concerns in an AI-driven legal system.
The state judiciary organized a new legal year summit in 2025–2026 with the theme “Cybersecurity in an AI-Driven Justice System: The Bar, The Bench, and Ethical Concerns.” This call was made during the summit.
The event, which took place on Tuesday, September 23 at the MUSON Centre in Onikan, highlighted the value of a coordinated strategy for negotiating the intricacies of cybersecurity and praised the judiciary for its dedication to the prompt administration of justice.
Regarding the necessity of the court collaborating with other branches, Obasa said, “It is essential that all branches of government, especially the judiciary, work together to address the challenges presented by cybersecurity.”
To protect Lagosians’ rights and interests, we must make sure that the legal system changes to keep up with the quickly changing technology landscape.
The speaker emphasized the need to improve individuals’ safety and security by utilizing legal measures. “We must be proactive in safeguarding our folks from possible dangers as we adopt technology. He told the audience that the Lagos State House of Assembly is dedicated to supporting the provision of the facilities and assistance required to guarantee that justice is administered without impediment.
Speaking on behalf of the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Lawal Pedro, the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emphasized the significance of this partnership. He emphasized that good governance and ethical considerations must coexist with the incorporation of technology into the legal system.
