Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has categorically refuted a Ghanaian businessman named Sam Jonah’s assertion that he gave him 501 hectares of land to establish River Park Estate in Abuja.
In order to illegally take over Houses for Africa Nigeria Ltd. and Jonahcapital Nigeria Ltd. and take over ownership of River Park Estate Abuja, Sir Jonah, a Knight of the British Empire, two other Ghanaians, Kojo Ansah and Victor Quainoo, as well as an Abuja-based lawyer, Abu Arome, and a company, Mobus Property Nigeria Ltd., are to be arraigned before Justice Modupe-Osho Adebiyi of the Federal Capital Territory’s High Court.
Obasanjo wrote a reply letter to the Inspector General of Police on July 10, 2025, which included his explanation.
Sam Jonah claimed that OBJ had given him 501 hectares of land to establish River Park Estate. In a letter dated July 4, 2025, the IGP asked the former president to verify whether or not this was accurate.
In a petition to the police following the dispute over who owned River Park Estate, Sam Jonah had stated that Obasanjo had given him the vast tract of land that housed one of Abuja’s largest estates.
In response to the petition concerning the ownership dispute of River Park Estate, Lugbe, and its affiliated firms, the Police issued a forensic report on November 29, 2024, and a final report on June 27, 2025, following a thorough and confidential investigation.
Obasanjo declared, “Sam Jonah’s claim that I invited him to assign 501 hectares of land to him or his company, or even just one plot of land for that matter, is completely false, fictitious, misleading, and libelous.”
In a previous letter to the Police on July 1, 2025, Obasanjo stated unequivocally that if Sam Jonah claimed that he (OBJ) had given him any land at all, he was entirely misremembering. This response is in line with that letter.
But as the Police awaited Obasanjo’s response to continue their investigation into Jonah’s appeal, Abu Arome rushed to the press to declare that the IGP had ordered a new inquiry into a probe that had already been completed.
As Arome mistakenly and purposefully believed, the IGP did not order a new inquiry, according to reliable sources.
Recall that the defendants are facing a 26-count indictment brought by the Nigerian Police for allegedly participating in the falsification of business documents and submitting them to the CAC Abuja.
Signed by Maureen Okonkwo, Registrar, High Court of the FCT, Abuja, and Isa Garba, prosecuting counsel, legal/prosecution division, Force headquarters, Abuja, the charge, designated CR/402/2025, was dated June 25th but filed on June 26th, 2025.
According to the complainant (IGP), the accused individuals allegedly used forged documents and signatures to illegally increase the company’s share capital and allot 99 million shares to themselves. They also allegedly presented themselves to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as Nigerian citizens in order to enable their purportedly fraudulent activities.

In order to support its allegations of fraud, forgery, impersonation, and other offenses against the defendants, the police have included a number of exhibits with the accusation, including petition letters to the Commissioner of Police FCT Command and the Inspector General of Police, respectively.
The charge also includes copies of the police investigation report, the final police investigation report, the defendants’ statements, and a letter of relinquishment of 8,000,000 shares purportedly signed by John Townley Johnson on the letterhead of Houses for Africa Holding Inc., which police have verified is a fake.
Various status reports of Houses for Africa Nigeria Ltd. and Jonahcapital Nigeria Ltd., as well as a board decision of Houses for Africa Nigeria Ltd. dated September 9, 2013, appointing and dismissing directors, are additional exhibits. All of these were completed fraudulently.
Additionally, forensic findings from Keyforensics Ltd. and the Nigerian Police dated November 29, 2025, were included with the allegation.
Additionally, the police listed the board resolutions that increased the share capital of Houses for Africa and Jonahcapital, removed Nigerian directors from Jonahcapital Nigeria Ltd. and Houses for Africa Nigeria Ltd., and processed title documents at Mobus Property Nigeria Ltd. as exhibits because they were fraudulent and executed without the proper authority.
