Obaseki wants third term – Former commissioner, Emwanta alleges

Andrew Emwanta, former Edo State commissioner for information, has alleged that Governor Godwin Obaseki is nursing a third term ambition.
He stated this in an interview with Arise TV on Monday night while reacting to the impeachment of the former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.
Naomi Sophy Blog recalls that the Edo State Assembly on Monday impeached Shaibu following reports of Justice S.A. Omonua (rtd)-led seven-man panel investigating the impeachment petition against the deputy governor.
The panel in its reports said the allegation of perjury was not proved beyond reasonable doubt by the complainant against the deputy governor while that of disclosure of government official documents was proved beyond reasonable doubt against the deputy governor.
Reacting, Emwanta, who was an appointee of the incumbent governor, alleged that his former boss conspired with the assembly members to sack Shaibu to pave the way for his third term agenda.
He said, “The reason Philip Shaibu is being kicked out is because they see him as a threat.
Edo people will decide if Obaseki will be allowed the opportunity to continue because he wants a third term by all means.

“He feels that removing Shaibu is the best way to achieve his third term ambition”.
