The Obidients Movement has pledged its unwavering support for former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, expressing its willingness to follow him to any political platform he chooses ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In an interview with Punch, the movement’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, reiterated their support for Obi, stating that they feel only he has the ability to save Nigeria from its current economic woes.
“We have decided that wherever His Excellency Peter Obi goes, we will accompany him. He is the leader of the Obedient Movement, and we believe in him.
“When he says this is the best way forward, we will follow him as long as we continue to believe he will lead us to the right destination,” Tanko told the crowd.
Tanko maintained that the movement’s support will continue, saying that if Obi ever made it to the Aso Villa, his government would work tirelessly to get the country back on track.
Obi’s presidential candidacy in 2023, contested by the Labour Party, received over six million votes, demonstrating the great popularity he has from Nigerians, particularly the Obidient Movement.
This allegiance to Obi remains strong, despite internal LP issues and speculation of prospective inter-party coalitions to oppose President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The commitment to Obi comes as talk grows about his possible return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his old platform.
This assumption comes after senior PDP members, including former Anambra PDP Chairman Dan Ulasi, pushed the party to woo Obi back, arguing that his presence could increase their chances in 2027.

Meanwhile, Ayo Olorunfemi, the LP’s Deputy National Chairman, advised Obi to remain in the Labour Party rather than yield to PDP pressure.
He stated, “Now that Obi has contested and seen the power of the LP, if he chooses another party, it will speak volumes about his intentions. It will reveal whether he genuinely believed in the LP ideology or simply used it as a platform for his ambition.”
Olorunfemi warned that if Obi left the LP, it might signal opportunism, making him indistinguishable from other politicians frequently switching parties for personal gain.
He advised Obi to focus on resolving the issues within the Labour Party and rebuilding it, saying, “If I were him, I would be working to restore peace in the Labour Party. He should stay and address the issues he and others have created in the party.”
In response to the growing calls for Obi’s return to the PDP, Olorunfemi expressed his belief that Obi’s potential defection could impact his support base and raise questions about his commitment to the LP’s ideals.
